This week we learned about fish, friends, fire, Ferdinand, and feathers. Our bible story (God’s Little Explorers) dealt mainly with fire but our local public library didn’t have as much as we were hoping in the way of books about fire, firefighters, or firetrucks, so we learned about a lot of other really cool things that begin with the Letter F, as well as fires.
In this post you will find the four books that we read this week along with any crafts or activities that we completed with the books. I will also list a few other Letter F Book List compilations at the end if you need more ideas.
As always enjoy!
What a fabulous story! I’ve always enjoyed this story and have been anxiously waiting for the letter F so that we could read this book. The pictures are great! B loved the sparkles of course, and the message is wonderful. Then, after reading and rereading this book a few times we made our very own Rainbow Fish.
I found the idea for this craft at Crafty Morning. The kids (my three plus a friend) all enjoyed using celery to stamp their fish. This is an easy set up, easy clean up activity, super fun, and they look great when done! I highly recommend to EVERYONE!
After reading Feathers for Lunch, I used a block letter F and some feathers to create a colorful F. B picked out feathers to match the birds that she liked the best in the book. What I loved about this book and all of Lois Ehlert books is that she labels everything. So, we were able to talk about the different types of birds, look at their feather colors, and even the sounds they make.
We didn’t do a craft with this story but we did read it many, many times. As I’ve mentioned before, whenever we read books like this I always encourage B to find the letter of the week throughout each book. So each time we read this, she was on the look out for all the F’s. Even though we didn’t do a fun craft she was able to get a lot of letter recognition practice with this story and we had a great conversation about the book in general.
Well there you have it! Four really cute books and craft/activities for the Letter F.
