More incredible board books from a wee one’s point of view. Our little shrimp, was the slowest to jump on the book bandwagon and for a long time I worried that she wouldn’t enjoy reading or books. As it turns out, all I needed to do was listen to the same advice I’ve been giving students for years. We just had to find books that were RIGHT for her.
So what books were the right fit? Anything small, with flaps, or made noise. B got a box set of mini books for her birthday and Shrimp will carry those books everywhere. She just needed books in her size and now she’s a book fan just like the rest of us.
Another classic Usborne book, I can’t say enough about that company! In Noisy Farm, the animals are so noisy they keep waking each other up until they’ve woken up the farmer and he shouts, “What a Noisy Farm.” Your kiddos will love the illustrations and all the great noises that this book has to offer.
As I mentioned, Shrimp loves any book that makes noise, so Let’s Have a Tea Party quickly became one of her favorites. It is a little wordy but all the different sounds help keep the kiddos engaged. If you love Minnie, Daisy, and/or tea parties you will absolutely adore this book. The girls each pick a different color Minnie to be for the story and then they are responsible for pushing their Minnie when it comes up in the story. So you can work on taking turns and colors while you play/read.
I think I could write volumes about this adorable little board book, and be careful I just might. For a while anyone that I knew that got pregnant received this book, I just wanted everyone to love it as much as we did.
Dear Zoo, an incredible lift flap book about a kid who writes to the zoo asking for a pet. The kid sends animal after animal back to the zoo for various reasons before finding the one that is just right. The flaps are great, it’s a board book so it’s sturdy for your little ones, and you can work on animal noises (if you know what sound a camel makes, we just chew loudly) while reading!
I found this gem at a random store not known for carrying books and I am so glad that I did. This touch and feel book will have your little ones playing peekaboo and checking out all the cool textures throughout the book. It even has a surprise peekaboo at the end. Since the title is Peekaboo Kisses the twins have started kissing each animal as we read it, so cute.
Of course, we had to have at least one Frozen book in this series. These little books were a gift to big sister but they fit so perfectly into Shrimps’ hands that she just loves them. They were also the tipping point that really got her into books, so thank you Aunt Jen! These tiny books are perfect for any Frozen lover. The books themselves are short and sweet but they include books that talk about letters, counting, colors, and more. A wonderful set of mini books!
That wraps up the third post in this board book series. If you missed there first two you can read all about A Mom’s List of Favorite Board Books and Favorite Board Books: Part II (Tuna’s list of favorites).
Don’t forget to check back soon for B’s list as told in her very own three year old words! And please share, we are always looking for books to add to our collection or scope out at the library. We would love to hear what your favorites are!
Warmest Wishes and Happy Reading,
