I will never forget the first time my bestie and I tried to take our four little ones to the beach for the first time. We struggled, major struggle bus. If someone had a camera the pictures they would’ve taken would have been hilarious.
Just imagine for a minute….
Two adults, four kids (three and under). Two of them barely walking, two of them about 2 1/2 years old, and all the toys and gadgets you can imagine. We were so loaded down with stuff we couldn’t even help carry kids. We had to take turns going back-and-forth to carry stuff and kids to the beach.
Since then I have taken a more minimalistic approach to going to the beach. Today I want to share with you some of my absolute favorite beach items that your kids will love and enjoy.
Minimalistic Beach Days
Here are some of my favorite things:
-
Large Beach Bag (with towels, water, snacks and misc.)
-
Backpack Chairs
-
Baby Powder
-
Spray Sunscreen
-
5 gallon bucket full of beach toys
That’s it, that’s all you really need!!!
Okay… so let me explain the bucket and the baby powder! The 5 gallon bucket not only neatly holds sand castle buckets, shovels, and other fun sand toys, it also acts as a baby pool (see Tuna above) AND is a perfect way to rinse kids and toys off before leaving the beach! So many activities! The baby powder is amazing for getting off pesky sand before hopping into the car! Sprinkle baby powder on wet or dry skin to easily brush away!
If it doesn’t fit in a bucket or the beach bag it doesn’t come to the beach! That’s my philosophy and it works!
Sure, I get told quite often that I’m such a mean mom. People are constantly trying to give us boogie boards, giant inflatable lobsters, kites, and more. Those things are all fun and definitely have a place and a time, but there is no way I’m lugging all of that to the beach every day!
Our minimalistic approach has allowed us to spend more time together making sand castles and playing in the water together. What are your favorite items to take to the beach?
Until next time 😉
