Letter K: Preschool

November 23, 2015 By Dani Wagner Leave a Comment

Hi!

I have to admit that we didn’t accomplish quite as much as I had hoped, but we had fun with what we did get to.

Since our letter this week was K and our number was 4, we did 4 kicks to jump-start our preschool day, every day. More often than not, the kids kept kicking long after four but it was great practice for balance, coordination, and just physical activity. You can check out ways to exercise through the entire alphabet here.

Letter Recognition:

We completed the following letter recognition activities, in addition to our weekly morning board activities which include air finger tracing.

We also completed the K is for Kite Dot page from The Measure Mom using our favorite dot markers.

We also did our usual water-color paint  activity with Coloring Pages from Easy Peasy and Fun.

Of course throughout the week we are constantly looking for the Letter K in everything we do, including the picture books we read and when we are out and about.

Math Concept: Sorting

B has gotten pretty good at sorting by color so this week we moved to sorting by shape and size.

She struggled a little with this activity mainly for two reasons, she is used to sorting by colors and kept reverting back to that, and the sizes of the buttons are pretty similar so it’s  hard to distinguish between sizes.

We also read this really cute book that involved sorting buttons on the uniforms of the three little firefighters.  I absolutely love these Math Start books, they are a great way to combine Literacy and Math Skills into one activity.

Handwriting:

I used a highlighter to write a few upper and lower case K’s in our tracing journal. Then, I had B  trace them with a pen.

We had also planned to do some handwriting practice in a salt or rice tray but never got around to it.

You can find these ideas and more at Learn with Play at Home.

Craft:

We did a couple of different craft projects this week but they were mostly centered around Thanksgiving since that is next week.

We used a Block Letter K  from The Measured Mom to create this Kite.  I had B use washable crayons and then we just cut out the  kite pieces from construction paper and glued them on.

Bible Story:

This week we read about several amazing Kings in the Bible. King Solomon, Saul, and David just to name a few.

I had hoped to do some crafts involving kings but we just didn’t get to it this week.

This adorable King K is from The Measured Mom, there are a ton of other craft ideas for the Letter K here as well.

I hope this post finds you well and adds a little glam to your Letter K activities in the future.

Warm Wishes and a Happy Thanksgiving.

Dani
