The next book in our Nature Walk and Book Series is In a Nutshell by Joseph Anthony. This book beautifully portrays the life of an oak tree. You will see an acorn turn into a beautiful oak tree and what happens when a tree becomes old and dies.
The illustrations in this book are gorgeous. Your kids will love seeing the acorn come to life and grow into a big and strong oak tree! You will see a change in seasons, scenery, and nature at it’s finest!
In a Nutshell Activities:
-
Take an early morning nature walk. What does the world look like at dawn?
-
Go on a listening walk, what else makes a “thump” in the woods? What other sounds do you hear?
-
Discuss the lifecycle of a plant/tree. Look for signs of a tiny sapling emerging from the soil.
-
Draw a picture of the life cycle of a tree.
-
Try to find different stages of trees on your walk.
-
-
Talk about what plants need to grow?
-
Why did the tree try to reach for the sun?
-
Find examples of this on your walk.
-
Collect acorns.
-
Explore dead or fallen trees. What kinds of animals live in these trees?
I hope that this book and these activities will encourage your little ones to explore, enjoy, and learn about the world around them. I’d love to hear your suggestions, feedback, and ideas for future nature walk and book posts! In case you missed last week, check out The Dandelion Seed: Nature Walk and Book Series.
