The Great Trouble: Project Ideas, Vocabulary, Writing Prompts and More

Welcome back to Live Love Learn Gracefully and another Literature Unit. This is a complete unit of study for The Great Trouble by Deborah Hopkinson. This unit is packed full of ideas that will expose your kids to pieces of World History, projects, Science concepts, Literature, and more.

The Great Trouble

The Great Trouble is a fantastic novel steeped in history about London, the Blue Death, and the great Dr. John Snow. You will fall in love with Eel, the community of London, and the 1950’s. Your students will be able to discuss the many different aspects of history that this story is based on and so much more.

 

 

In this unit you will find activities for a variety of subjects including project ideas. The following is just a few of the topics and activities you will find in this unit.

  1. Literature:
    • Genres with Graphic Organzier
    • Dialect with Chart for writing dialect used and meaning
  2. History:
    • London 1950’s
      • Sanitation
      • Thames River
  3. STEM:
    • Timeline: Epidemics throughout History
    • Anesthesiology
  4. Projects:
    • Write a Biography
    • Create a Map / Map Analysis
    • Character Suitcase
