The Game Changing Resource in our Homeschool

The Game Changing Resource in Our Homeschool - LiveLoveLearnGracefully

So I just wanted to quickly share with you all this game changing resource that I recently found! But first let me explain… Miss B is doing a fantastic job with Kindergarten! I absolutely love homeschooling and love the curriculum we are using. I feel like I am learning right along with her and it’s wonderful.

Occasionally I get on Pinterest to look for new ideas or scope out resources in areas that I can see she is struggling in or for the twins who are doing preschool. Of course there are a ton of amazing resources available online and on Pinterest, a lot of which are worksheets. Don’t get me wrong I love a good worksheet but I also prefer hands on activities to spending hours at the table on paper and pencil work.

I’m getting closer to that resource I promise! My most recent Pinterest search was for Sight Word activities. We’ve done the salt tray, Scrabble tile, paint, magnetic letter activities over and over and yet I feel like we needed something else other than the amazing variety of sight word worksheets we also use.

Which brings me to the amazing and incredibly simple game changing resource!

Sight Word Resource that Rocks

Are you ready for it?

It’s a Sight Word File Folder.

Yup! The name says it all. It is a file folder used to practice sight words in an incredibly easy, fun, and super simple way. Top it off with that fact that it takes less than 10 minutes a day!

For the complete set of directions on how to make and use this amazing file folder you can head over to the Organize Homeschooler. She does an amazing job of explaining how to set it up and work through the activity!

Why We Love It

For Me

This has been a great way to see daily what words she knows, doesn’t know, or is still working on. We’ve also been able to talk about and practice some different spelling words that are a little more advanced than where she is in her phonics lessons! Because yes we do both, phonics and sight words!

For Her

Miss B is independent and wants nothing more than to be her own boss and teacher, which will be fantastic in a few years but is oh so challenging right now. This activity has given her some “authority” in her schooling. She loves to grab her folder and work on her words by herself. She especially loves to read the stack she has accrued in her “DONE” folder. I think that being able to move the words through the six folders and finally into the final “done” folder is rewarding for kids and allows them to see their successes!

We also set goals for her as you will hear her mention in this video. Once she hit those goals she is allowed to choose a small reward.

If you are looking for a fun way to work on sight words at home with your kiddos, maybe give them some extra practice at home, or if you have preschoolers that are ready to begin this file folder activity is truly an incredible resource that I would encourage you to check out.

If you have any questions about how we implement it feel free to ask! And if you’d like to check out any of my pinterest boards you can find me here.

What are your favorite sight word activities? I’m always on the lookout for new ideas!

Until next time,

If you enjoy it, please pass it on:
